week #9

Hey ladies,  We had a great discussion on the numerous techniques that we as teachers can use. These consist of adding a pushing strategy, swapping out a trading strategy, rearranging a cutting and sorting strategy, and making changes to a strategy while it is being written. Effective writing requires a revision plan approach. what stood out to me is that doing these enables me as a teacher to go back into the classroom to take a step back and allow my students to assess their own work. Also, we focused on teaching methods for supporting students who have writing difficulties in the classroom this week, which was really informative and useful. My belief is that students frequently battle with writhing; even as a teacher, I experienced this myself prior to beginning teacher education. One of my favorite aspects of this course was learning about the many kinds of struggling learners that may present in the classroom and how teachers may use the different scaffolding strategies listed under the different headings to assist students in the writing process. Each strategy was quite intriguing, especially knowing that you have a guide to help when children have problems.

CHELSEY DESIGNING WRITING ASSESSMENTS AND ASSIGNMENTS FOR THE PRIMARY GRADES WEEK 10

 

Hey ladies, the last and final week of this blogging and class has arrived. Let me start by saying that it has been 10 weeks of fantastic, packed with worthwhile discussions, demonstrations, and activities from our lecturer and peers. I must admit that this course has taught me a lot about writing.

This week, we concentrate on the various ways that students can be evaluated when writing. There are numerous approaches and resources that can be employed to support students' writing in the classroom. Two broad categories can be used to evaluate students during formative and summative assessments. To monitor students' writing processes during formative assessments, tools like double entry journals, learning logs and diaries can be used. However, a summative assessment can track a student's writing development using a portfolio and a rubric. The ability to monitor students' progress is crucial to being a successful teacher. Students will be more invested if they can review their development and how it relates to larger objectives. . The discussion when our lecturer explain the advantages of using rubrics in the classroom and how the 6+1 rubric can assist us as teachers tremendous  in the writing process is one of the things that I really enjoy.

I really value the visual representations of the various rubrics and the concise explanation of the requirements so that teachers can better understand the scoring system. Overall, the class was very efficient, instructive, and well-run. In addition, I gained a lot of knowledge that I will apply in the classroom when I go back.

CHELSEY WRITING STRATEGIES WEEK 9

Ladies, I'm sure we can all agree that you had some sort of  difficulties writing about a topic or reflecting on a course you took during your teacher training experience. Consider our students in the same situation. Writing is a difficult and complex task, and a child's ability to develop it depends on how interested they are in writing and how motivated they are to write. There are many benefits to writing, one of which is the chance to voice one's ideas, emotions, and opinions. Children can demonstrate their knowledge of a particular subject through writing. Effective writers must hone a variety of abilities, including the capacity to arrange ideas, use conventions, write legibly, recognize a structure, and engage an audience, regardless of the purpose of their writing. However, some of the students in the class are regarded as struggling writers. This week, our attention is on teaching techniques that can be used in the classroom to assist students who are having trouble writing. One of my favorite parts of this lesson was learning about the different types of struggle learners that can exist in the classroom and how teachers can use the various scaffolding strategies under the various headings to assist students in the writing process.

We also talked about the various revision strategies that teachers can employ. These include incorporating a pushing strategy, replacing a trading strategy, reordering  a cutting and sorting strategy, and revising a strategy while writing a strategy. The revision strategy process is essential for effective writing. It allows students to step back and critically evaluate their work.

Lastly, we also discussed how teachers can foster a learning environment for their students. It is our responsibility as educators to make sure every student receives the best education possible. As a result, our teaching environment should include tools like scissor tapes, dictionaries, and spelling books. One aspect of this subject that particularly interested me was the variety of activities teachers can use to promote writing.

CHELSEY PROMOTING WRITING - APPROCHES TO WRITING -WEEK EIGHT

Hey guys, can you believe it's already week eight? I'm sure you learned a lot from the pass few weeks of literature class. This week's emphasis is on the various methods that primary school teachers employ to teach writing. It gives an overview of each strategy, explains how it works, and explains how primary teachers can use the most promising aspects of each strategy to improve their writing instruction.  For a beginning writer, there are many things to consider, including letter formation on the page, writing horizontally from left to right, spacing between words, using letters to represent word sounds, capitalizing proper nouns and sentence starts, and correctly placing punctuation. The goal of penmanship instruction was to ensure children formed letters correctly so they could produce neat, readable writing. The next approaches we touch were the rules based approach in this approach involves teaching children to correctly write words and sentences. It includes activities like identifying parts of speech, locating sentence elements such as subjects and predicates, learning and applying rules for subject-verb agreement and pronoun use, and practicing punctuation, capitalization, and spelling. The process approach involves students   in the writing process.  They were three  things that piqued my interest. firstly, I found that  genre approach has a wide variety of different genre . I found it interest because it will allow the students to be able to be creative in any piece of writing they produce and allow gain interest in what genre of books they want to read. Additionally, the strategy approach and the multi modal  approach . Strategy approach the uses of the abbreviation to assist students like TREE and POW was just an excellent ideas for a teacher to display in her class to guide students in the writing process. Lastly the incorporate of the different elements of the multi modal to reach each students. In my opinion , I believe this is an excellent strategy that  teachers should  employ in the 21st century classroom its an excellent approach to reach all students needs.   Overall, the class was quite effective, educational, and well executed

week 8

Hello everyone, I hope this week has been fruitful for every one of you. This was all about several approaches that may be used in the classroom to improve students' writing. But why are these ways to teach writing important? These approaches assist teachers to find suitable models to suit each students writing ability.  I honestly had no idea that there were actual approaches that can be used to improve writing. Also, the fact that handwriting is a real technique for writing was the one that stuck out for me. Miss Quinn, on the other hand, took the time to explain each technique, and I like that she gives us the opportunity to demonstrate each so that we can better comprehend each of them. By doing so, I was able to thoroughly grasp the concept and significance of each technique, learning how they function and how they may be used in the classroom. I really liked how the rules-based approach was used. The rules-based approach described how it teaches children to write words and phrases correctly. The most significant aspect of using these ways is that the teacher may select a strategy that is appropriate for each student. The video also provided us with insight into the various approaches, which was beneficial to me as a visual and audio learner. This lesson was really engaging and instructive, and there was a lot of material to take back to the classroom to assist our students to improve overall writing and reading skills.

 

CHELSEY THE PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING WRITING WEEK SEVEN

 

My philosophy of education is that all children are unique and require a stimulating educational environment in which they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. I believe that teaching is a lifetime commitment and it’s my desire to foster an environment in which students can reach their full potential. I will, as a teacher, create a setting that encourages, and involves children in an authentic, original, and free-flowing expression of thoughts, feelings, and ideas in order to facilitate their love for reading and, particularly, their learning of writing. I'll design activities to encourage and pique their interest in writing. For example playing a game with pictures, think, share, pass and write about it. These activities will help them to analyze information which will enable them to critically think and write. It is my responsibility as a teacher to foster and develop a love of writing among my students. In the classroom, I could create a learning environment that includes things like a class library with a diverse selection of books, listening stations with headphones that can play audios, posters with various writing-process algorithms, and   writing centers with supplies like paper, pencils, and crayons. My goal as a teacher is to make learning come alive for all of my students and to encourage their personal development. To accomplish this, I will use a variety of teaching methods such as independent work, share reading , cooperative learning, and hands-on activities to meet the needs of all of my students. "I believe that every student is unique and capable of learning in their own unique way, as Gardener explains in his theory of multiple intelligences."

Week #7 My Philosophy of teaching

My teaching philosophy is to create an environment that encourages guided exploration. I think that learning occurs most effectively in situations that are both relevant and realistic. I believe that students learn to write well when they understand the importance of good writing. Assign brief writing activities in my classrooms on a regular basis. Give direction throughout the writing process. I will help my students by instilling in them the importance of their work and the fact that their writing will be read and accepted. Students should be given the chance to speak in front of the class. Enable my students to grow intellectually and comprehend difficult material. They will learn how to work productively and arrange their thoughts by developing precise definitions. I should not be the only audience for my students as a teacher. Sharing my experiences, my stories, and my process with students has been the key to connecting with them on a very real level about what it takes to be a writer. Having a positive attitude about reading and rewriting my students will be more willing to take on that attitude as well. Writing alongside my students is motivating. Finally, as a teacher, you are responsible for more than simply your students' creativity. It's about who you're becoming as you create. I make it my job to boost my students' confidence, develop their abilities, and encourage them to love the process of reading and writing.

Week #6

Hey, fellow group member, this week was refreshing not only physically but also psychologically since we were able to refresh our knowledge on the six writing traits of planning, drafting, rewriting, editing, and publishing. It further sparked my curiosity when we were taught that writing characteristics are all linked to the writing process. Miss Quinn took her time going over each trait's meaning. We had a brief teaching moment when we discussed words that can be used to begin sentences and ones that cannot be used. That was really instructive for me. As a result, the six traits approach allows me as a teacher and for students to focus on one or two aspects of writing at a time, making learning to write more manageable and successful for students. It is also a method of providing students with precise feedback through the examination of their writing. In class, we saw a few videos on the subject, which I found interesting. I hope you like them as well and remember things essential to do in class. Miss Quinn should continue to share her expertise with other students in order to become a better teacher in future classes, in my opinion. It was a really informative class session.  

CHELSEY- THE STAGES IN WRITING DEVELOPMENT + WRITING AS A STAGE, A PROCESS, A TRAIT - WEEK SIX

 

Hey folks, have you ever taught that there are numerous stages that a child goes through in order to become a fluent writer? Have you heard of the writing process until now? I'm certain that before learning about the writing process, you assumed the child or  children was purposely writing that way. This week's class focuses on a variety of topics in depth.

Different stages in writing

 Ladies we all can agree that writing development is a learning process that takes years to complete. For young children, the process of writing and drawing has different learning curves depending on the child. Every child, however, goes through comparable stages of development with their art and writing. Each level of the writing development process is distinct. Understanding how written language represents verbal and cognitive ideas is a developmental process unto itself. When children are learning new skills, they progress through different stages of development these include Preliterate, Early Emergent, Emergent, transition and fluency. What I appreciate about this topic   is that after viewing the video, I was able to obtain a better understanding of what teachers can expect about different stages and become more knowledgeable of how we can support our students during their development. Additionally, The many demonstrations from my colleagues with their unique techniques to help students at a specific point in the writing process also sparked my interest.

Six writing Traits

Any writer can tell you that mastering the art of writing is difficult. We all can all testify to that statement and we all   can agree it can be even more difficult to teach our students to do so. The 6+1 Trait is a way of teaching, modeling, and assessing the instruction of writing.  This model identifies six important features , Ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions are the 6+1 traits in writing. There were various aspects of this topic that piqued my interest, as well as how educational it was. To begin, I was able to grasp that the Six Traits model allows teachers and students to focus on one or two parts of writing at a time, producing a more manageable and successful manner for students to learn how to write. Furthermore, it provides particular feedback to students through the evaluation of their work. Finally, the Six Traits assist both the student and the teacher in identifying areas of writing in which the student needs to develop. To achieve good writing as a teacher, we must include the Six Traits.

I really appreciate the visuals of the numerous charts and graphic design, as well as the utilization of songs in the lesson to help children grasp the writing process. Overall, the class was quite effective, educational, and well executed. I also learned a lot of useful knowledge that I will utilize when I return to the classroom. 

 

CHELSEY -CHALLENGES IN THE TEACHING OF WRITING+ STAGES OF WRITING DEVELOPMENT - WEEK FIVE

 

adLadies, we can all agree that teaching is a magnificent profession since it is rewarding to have an impact on children's lives. However, many people are unaware of the challenges that come with this field of work. This week, we will examine a quick description five main challenges in the teaching of writing that teachers encounter in today's classrooms these include Multidimensional nature of writing ,    writing as a decontextualized task, Absence of prosody, body language, and facial expression in writing, Writers cannot assume shared context with the reader,   Writer’s limited information about reader’s knowledge, opinion, and reading competence  and a brief overview of the stages of  writing  development .we also analyze the implications of these strategies and how teachers should incorporate the usage of various writing strategies to overcome the challenges.  What piqued my interest in this class session was discovering how closely interwoven reading and writing are and how important they are. Reading and writing are important parts of thinking and learning. They remain intertwined as students’ progress in both areas. The absence of these two components could
present numerous difficulties in the teaching of writing. Additionally, I love how it incorporates a video that explains, illustrates, and gives a quick description of what is required from teachers and students at various stages of writing. Furthermore, I appreciate the abundance of images used to show us what the different stages of writing looks like. The video below demonstrates how our students and/or children progress through the many stages of writing as they mature.

Week #5

I must say that this week was really interesting, and I want to thank Miss Quinn and my other classmates for making it a very entertaining lesson this week. We discussed the difficulties in writing instruction and the stages of writing development. I must admit that these topics were a mouthful. I've learned a lot because honestly speaking I had no knowledge of these topics. After learning these I now realize that I can improve my students writing by implementing different strategies. before I get into that we went through the important stages which are the emergent stage, early stage, transitional stage, and fluency writing. My thoughts are that children love expressing their thoughts and ideas verbally. Putting those thoughts on paper (writing) happens in stages that kids work through at their own pace. However Some will develop writing skills quickly; for others, it will take longer. We also did an activity with strategies to assist children to write at various levels. My group worked on the early emergent stage, in which we took a sample from a child and used an approach to help them improve their writing. The approach we utilize is tracing with dots, which allows the child to easily trace letters. As the child uses this strategy, their writing will improve and they will be able to create the letters on their own. I don't have any recommendations because it was a truly fantastic week.

TRENDS IN WRITING - BEST PRACTICES IN WRITING INSTRUCTION - WEEK FOUR

Ladies, I must say that we have learned a huge amount of information about varieties  of writing-related topics. This week, the main emphasis was on the various writing strategies teachers may employ in the classroom. One of the things I admired or like the most about this week's class was how much I learned from the numerous presentations. It was a great idea to involve every student in an exercise where they had to demonstrate how to use each strategy. Demonstrating   the importance of utilizing a rubric to the class and how it can benefits teachers, parents, and students spark my interest the most. I never knew how crucial it was as a teacher until the presentation. Although there was a lot to learn in this class, one concept particularly stood out to me  which I think is very important in my opinion. Teachers are aware that writing is challenging, and improving one's writing is even more challenging. When writing or learning how to construct a piece of writing, students are less likely to give it their all. . Teachers can diversify instruction to ensure that every student learns in a different way by now utilizing the different varieties of writing strategies in the classroom.  By doing this, student participation in their learning is increased and teacher-student communication is improved. Overall, the class session was really fruitful and pleasant,  A  loner time span for each demonstration of the  strategies would have been helpful to the new students as a further recommendation

Blog Week#3 - Eight Writing Process for expository writing

One thing  for certain... by time we are finished with this course we will be great writers. This week looks at the eight steps of writing an expository essay: Step 1- ideas to execute the course needs to be clear and legitimate to move forward in the right direction. the researcher has to keep in mind how to bring the ideas to life to fit the best needs for the reader is the second step. Thirdly, idea tailor made for the reader narrowed into a circumscribed and focused topic. Planning, gathering, reporting, researching, observing, experiencing and viewing information. Step five (5) entails determining the context what to use and how and how to develop the story's purpose Step 6  this step focuses on the design of the written piece its sense of direction and informational. we were given the opportunity to formulate a topic of which I chose " the scarcity of water in Antigua and Barbuda" focusing on cause and effect. Am really excited as am able to conduct one on one interviews with managers at Antigua Pluming and Utility Authority to get  direct information for my essay to be lit!!!

week 4#

Hello, my fellow group members. I've been learning a lot about writing and how to teach our students the proper structure and easier way to write. This week, we look at the fundamentals of writing instruction and the different types of writing methods. With the essentials of teaching writing, here is where we teach children different methods to write by allotting time for writing and incorporating writing skills into the timetable. Children must also receive feedback from us teachers on their writing, which may be done by myself or by other students.

One of the following crucial points is the think-aloud, where the instructor will demonstrate and then model for the students. It was thrilling to go through the different writing techniques, I had no idea there were so many distinct writing strategies. Having the class demonstrate and deliver their work was an excellent approach for us to have a complete understanding of the concepts. I covered revising and editing, which is a key step of the writing process since it allows students to reflect on what they've written. However, using these strategies is critical for our students and will help them become better writers in class. One suggestion I have is that we need more videos in the classes to make it more visible. I must say that Miss Quinn did an outstanding job of providing us with relevant knowledge and modeling while also ensuring that we all stayed on track.👏This is an example of a strategy that exemplified self-regulation and metacognitive reflection.

CHELSEY The Writing Process week three

 

Hey ladies, at this week's session, what sprang to mind first as Ms. Quinn discussed the writing process? Have you ever imagined how easy writing may be? The eight writing steps are the focus for this week's blog. This class had some incredibly creative and simple methods that allowed teachers to guide their students in producing exceptional writing. I firmly believe that adhering to the steps of the ideal writing process will help us teachers organize essays and any piece of writing and guide our students to become betters writers in the classroom. I had a fantastic time in class this week as I learned a significant amount of new information to help me become a better language teacher and to help my students when I return to the classroom to become better writers.
